Effectiveness of Deer and Rabbit Repellents in CT
Scott Williams PhD, Certified Wildlife Biologist®, CAES
This talk will discuss two experimental repellent trials: one on deer and one on rabbits. Both studies were conducted in Connecticut and used commercially available (at the time) repellent formulations. Generally, products that smelled fragrant and pleasant to the applicator did not perform as well as the more unpleasant scented formulations. Also, repellents that were recommended to be applied with greater frequency performed better than those with longer durations between applications. Repellents can be used to deter herbivory damage on small, residential gardens where minimal to marginal deer and rabbit browse pressure exists.
10:30 am – 11:30 am
