Retail Sales Manager

A top 50, upscale Garden Center seeks new Retail Manager to oversee store staffing, purchasing of hard goods and pottery and daily customer service interactions. The ideal candidate will have a passion for plants and gardening, coupled with strong leadership and organizational skills. Applicants need exceptional taste, top tier merchandising skills, a good working knowledge of all things horticulture, previous experience buying, selling and have amazing people skills. You must be a people person. Applicants must have at least 3-5 years of previous experience managing a garden center.

Skills:

– Excellent communication skills to interact with customers, employees, and suppliers
– Strong customer service orientation to ensure customer satisfaction
– Experience in recruiting, training, and managing employees

Container Garden & Seasonal Decor Program Manager

Sam Bridge Nursery & Greenhouses has a rapidly expanding Container Garden & Seasonal Décor program, now seeking a new lead to work as our program manager. The program manager will be responsible for designing, installing and maintaining horticultural and some floral designs at the client’s home. Planters, small garden beds and other areas – entryways, patios, etc. Applicants must have prior experience designing with plants and cut flowers. You should have great working knowledge of the mechanics of planter and floral design and good working knowledge of plants and what they need to thrive.

TASKS INCLUDE:

  • Designing & installing outdoor potted plants
  • Designing & installing exterior seasonal décor (fall & winter)
  • Designing & installing vegetable gardens and annual flower plantings
  • Maintaining installations
  • Managing inventory for installations
  • Estimates & sales
  • Leading installation crews
  • Driving large company vehicles to installation sites (clean driver’s license required)

Job Type: Full-time

Research Technician I
Department of Entomology A full-time (35 hr/week) position at the Research Technician I level is available in the Department of Entomology, the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station, as the State Apiary Inspector. The Apiary Inspector is responsible for examination of honeybees and apiaries for infections caused by parasites, bacteria, invasive insects, and other pathogens. The Apiary Inspector will also assist beekeepers in developing best practices for hive health, good neighbor relationships, and pollinator health and habitat. The position requires state outreach activities with in-state travel; applicants must have a valid driver’s license. Duties include, but are not limited to opening hives, handling honeybees, examining specimens, registering beekeepers and their apiaries, and interacting with the public.  The position requires extensive driving within state to conduct inspections and site visits, and applicants must have a valid driver’s license. The Apiary Inspector may also be called upon to assist in other horticultural or export inspections not related to honeybees.  The Apiary Inspector is expected to possess sufficient physical strength to open and move hives for inspection, work with beekeepers of various skill levels, and sufficient beekeeping skills and knowledge to be able to conduct inspections and assist beekeepers. The applicant should possess good interpersonal skills, be well organized and able to take direction, have the ability to plan and manage various tasks, and be able to cope with an evolving work environment. Qualifications include a BA/BS degree in biology, agriculture, or entomology, and experience with beekeeping.
The hours of operation are 8:30 AM-4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. This position includes medical and dental benefits. The annual starting salary is $51,977. The position is based at the main CAES laboratories in New Haven. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
